When to use a letter wheel
Scattergories-style games
Spin a letter, set a two minute timer and everyone writes a fruit, a city and a band starting with it. No dice or box needed.
Alphabet lessons
Kindergarten teachers spin a letter and ask the class for its sound and three words that start with it. Projected on the board, it holds attention better than flashcards.
Naming things
Stuck on a name for a pet, band or product? Spin a starting letter and brainstorm within it. Constraints make creative work easier.
Road trip games
Spin a letter and the first person to spot something outside that starts with it scores a point.

Get more from the wheel
- Remove Q, X and Z for younger players. Those letters stall the game fast.
- Spin the categories list too and play two wheels at once: "Animal starting with T".
- Press Remove after each round so no letter repeats until the whole alphabet is used.
- For a spelling bee warmup, spin three letters and challenge students to make the longest word using all of them.
Questions people ask
Does each letter have the same chance?
Yes. All 26 letters get one equal slice. If you want to favor common letters like S or T, add them a second time.
Can I use the letter wheel for Scattergories?
Yes. It replaces the 20-sided letter die. Spin once per round and remove the letter afterward if you don't want repeats.
Can I add letters from other alphabets?
Yes. Paste any characters you like, one per line, such as Ñ for Spanish or Greek letters for a sorority game.
What's a good letter game for kids?
Try first sound hunt. Spin a letter and give kids 60 seconds to bring back one object from the room that starts with it. Whoever finds the most unusual item picks who spins next. Leave out tricky letters like X until they're ready.
