A little suspense. One lucky landing.

When to use a icebreaker wheel

  1. Team meetings

Spin once at the start and give everyone 20 seconds to answer. Ten people take about four minutes, which is short enough to keep weekly.

  2. First day of class

Spin a question for each student as they introduce themselves. It beats name plus major and gives classmates something to talk about after.

  3. Workshops and trainings

Spin once per table and let each group share the best answer with the room. It warms people up before you ask them to participate in the real content.

  4. New hire welcomes

Let the new person spin for the team. Everyone answers the question, so the new hire learns about the team instead of being put on the spot alone.

Get more from the wheel

  • Go first yourself. Your answer sets how deep or silly everyone else goes.
  • Spin one question for the whole room rather than one per person. Shared questions spark follow-up conversation.
  • Remove questions you've used this month so regulars don't hear the same one twice.
  • Let people pass. A forced personal answer cools the room rather than warming it.

Questions people ask

How long should an icebreaker take?

Aim for 20 to 30 seconds per person. For groups over 15, split into breakout pairs or spin one question per table instead of going around the whole room.

Are these icebreakers good for work?

Yes. The default list and the remote list stay light and professional. Save the deeper list for teams that already know each other.

Can I use the icebreaker wheel on Zoom or Teams?

Yes. Share your screen with the wheel open and spin live. The result is visible to everyone, which keeps the energy up.
