How to pick a giveaway winner on X (Twitter)
On X, giveaways usually run on reposts, likes and replies, but replies are the only one of the three you can reliably copy into a list. Make replying your entry, collect the handles, and draw from those.
Draw your X (Twitter) winner
Who's in?
0 entries
Doo draws with public randomness that doesn't exist until after your list is locked in. Anyone can check the result.
Get your X (Twitter) entries
Make the reply the entry
Write "Reply with your favorite [thing] to enter" in the post. The reposts and likes lists on X aren't something you can count on to be complete or easy to copy, but replies sit right under your post.
Open every hidden branch
On the post page, scroll to the end and click "Show more replies" and "Show probable spam" if they appear. Real entrants land in those buckets more often than you'd think.
Copy the handles
Select the replies and paste into a sheet or note. Keep one @handle per line. If someone replied five times, keep them once unless your rules allowed extra entries.
Spot obvious bots
Accounts made last week with no posts and a reply of just a tag are usually bots. Decide your rule for them before the giveaway, write it down, and apply it to everyone.
Pick and check the winner
Paste the list into the Winner Picker
One handle per line. The Winner Picker reads the list as-is, or you can upload a CSV if you kept the replies in a spreadsheet.
Choose how many winners
Running three prizes? Pick 1st, 2nd and 3rd in one draw, so nobody can claim you redrew until you liked the result.
Share the result link
Quote your original post with the winner and the results link. It keeps the announcement attached to the giveaway for anyone who scrolls back.
Mistakes that make a draw look rigged
- Using "repost to enter" when you have no way to list every reposter.
- Rewarding people who made extra accounts; X's rules on contests discourage anything that pushes people to create multiple accounts or post duplicates.
- Ignoring replies hidden under "Show probable spam".
- DMing the winner before announcing, then getting accused of choosing a friend.
- Requiring follows without checking them; if a follow is a rule, check the winner follows before you announce.
Announce the winner
Post it where people entered, and link the results page so anyone can check the draw.

Questions people ask
Can I pick a random retweeter or reposter on X?
Not reliably for free. X's reposts list isn't built for exporting, and it may not show every account. That's why reply-to-enter giveaways are easier to run fairly.
Do I need to check that the winner follows me?
Only if following was part of your rules. If it was, open the winner's profile before announcing. If they don't follow, draw again and say so publicly.
What does X say about running giveaways?
X has published guidelines for contests that discourage multiple accounts and duplicate posting. Check X's current help pages before launching, since its policies change often.
