How to pick a giveaway winner on Discord
Discord giveaways run inside your server, so entrants are already part of your community. You can run one with a reaction on a message or with an entry thread, and either way you can pull a full list of members without any bot.
Draw your Discord winner
Who's in?
0 entries
Doo draws with public randomness that doesn't exist until after your list is locked in. Anyone can check the result.
Get your Discord entries
Post a giveaway message in an announcement channel
Spell out the prize, deadline and entry action, like "React with 🎉 to enter". Lock the channel so the post doesn't get buried under chatter.
Open the reactions list
On desktop, right-click the message (or open the three-dot menu) and choose Reactions. A window lists every member who used each emoji, which you can scroll and copy names from.
Or use a thread per entry
For a skill-based entry ("post your setup"), start a thread and ask for one message each. Copy the author names straight from the thread.
Use usernames, not nicknames
Server nicknames can be changed any time. Write down each person's unique username so the winner can't be confused with someone using the same display name.
Pick and check the winner
Paste the usernames into the Winner Picker
One username per line. Drop your own account and any bots that reacted, since the bot that adds the starter emoji will show up in the list.
Pick winners, places or both
Giving away Nitro to three people? Pick three winners in one go. Running a tournament-style giveaway? Use 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
Post the results link in the channel
Announce the winner with an @mention and drop the results link. Members can open it and see the full list of who was in the draw.
Mistakes that make a draw look rigged
- Leaving the bot account or your own starter reaction in the entry list.
- Requiring members to boost the server to enter, which turns a free giveaway into a paid one.
- Counting members who left the server before the draw when your rules said you had to be in it to win.
- Promising Nitro or game keys without knowing how you'll deliver them, then stalling the winner.
- Ignoring Discord's Community Guidelines on scams; a giveaway that collects logins or card details will get your server reported.
Announce the winner
Post it where people entered, and link the results page so anyone can check the draw.

Questions people ask
Do I need a giveaway bot on Discord?
No. A reaction list or an entry thread gives you the names, and pasting them into a free picker gives you a result anyone can check. Bots save time on frequent giveaways but aren't required.
How do I see everyone who reacted to a message?
On desktop, right-click the message and choose Reactions. You'll see a list per emoji. On large servers, scroll to the bottom of each list so you don't miss anyone.
Can I limit a Discord giveaway to certain roles?
Yes. Post it in a channel only that role can see, or state the role requirement in your rules and remove members without it before you draw.
